Addiction and Quit Smoking from the Perspective of TCM
In my practice, I use acupuncture and TCM for smoking cessation and various types of addiction. Specifically for smoking cessation, there are numerous studies available today. The TCM therapy aims to guide both body and mind in discovering new pathways, or „coping mechanisms,“ that help manage daily life without consumption and promote self-awareness and acceptance.
Addiction and Quit Smoking with TCM:
Smoking Cessation
Smoking Cessation
Nicotine dependence can be effectively treated with auricular acupuncture. I use the NADA protocol (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association), which has been used worldwide for many years to help you quit smoking.
Substance Addiction
Alcoholism
From the perspective of TCM, alcohol addiction is often rooted in liver Qi stagnation. The individual, often unconsciously, tries to balance an internal disharmony with alcohol. However, prolonged alcohol consumption leads to dependency and further disharmonies in the liver meridian. Traditional Chinese Medicine can assist in restoring balance to the organs and alleviating challenging emotions, thereby motivating the patient to overcome alcohol addiction.
Prescription Drug Addiction
Medication addiction can develop gradually and may only become apparent as a problem after a relatively long time. Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses during the detox phase primarily on reducing symptoms and calming the Shen (the spirit) of the patient.
Recreational Drug Addiction
The therapy for drug detoxification depends on the type of substance the patient has used. In cases of substance abuse, detoxification involves both mental and physical components. The therapist will aim to calm the patient’s Shen (spirit) and reduce physical symptoms.
Behavior Addiction
Social Media Addiction
An addiction that becomes prevalent is often initially considered unproblematic, but it can significantly restrict the individual’s life. The therapy includes not only acupuncture but also meditation techniques to help the patient manage their feelings and cope with themselves.
Shopping Addiction
Compulsive buying, like any addiction, is an attempt to avoid dealing with one’s emotions by finding activities that demand full attention. The focus here is on helping the patient find ways and strategies to manage their emotions.
Gambling Addiction
The treatment of gambling addiction follows the same principles as mentioned above. Meditation, alongside Chinese acupuncture, can help the patient become grounded in the present moment with all their emotions.
